The day is believed to have got its name from former US President, Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt after a cute teddy was designed in his honour following his decision to not kill an animal during one of his hunting trips. It is believed that the first official teddy bear was made by Morris Michtom, a New York-based candy store owner in Brooklyn, New York.
