Amphan Super Cyclone uproots trees and causes service disruption in Odisha

Strong winds are blowing in the coastal areas. Tree uprooting has been reported in Balasore and Bhadrak districts. Heavy rains are falling at Bhadrak and Paradip.

10,000 people have been evacuated along the river. People living in raw houses have been shifted to safer places. Fishermen have been told to stay away from the sea.

Around one lakh people from coastal areas across Odisha have been evacuated.

At the same time, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the cyclone was 120 km from Paradip at 10.30 am.

The cyclone is expected to make landfall along the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast. The effects of the hurricane will begin this afternoon. The coastal areas of Odisha are at high risk of cyclones.

High waves have been rising in the sea since Tuesday. The storm is moving at a speed of 155 to 165 kmph towards the coastal districts. The maximum wind speed can also be 185 km per hour.

Many trees have fallen on the highway at Chandbali in Odisha due to strong winds. Currently, the storm is affecting Odisha.

The tree has fallen in Bhadrak during storms and rains. The cyclone is expected to bring torrential rains and storms to Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore coastal districts of Odisha.

Strong winds are blowing in Balasore district of Odisha district. Hurricanes are also expected to bring torrential rains.

The storm is being tracked due to a tidal wave in the sea. Super Cyclone Amphan is being monitored by Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

Hurricane Amphan could strike somewhere between Digha in West Bengal and Hatia Island in Bangladesh. Apart from Odisha and West Bengal, Sikkim and Meghalaya have also been warned of the storm till Thursday.

East Madnapur, South 24-Parganas and North 24-Parganas are the three coastal districts most likely to be affected by 'Amphan'.

Apart from these three districts, Hurricane Amphan is also likely to affect Howrah, Hooghly, West Midnapore and Kolkata and other districts in South Bengal.

A total of 19 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are deployed in West Bengal.

There are 13 teams deployed in Odisha. About 17 teams have been reserved for emergencies.
