Cyclone Amphan to hit Bengal in hours with wind gusting at 200 kmph

Cyclone Amphan is likely to pass between Digha and Hatia islands along the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast. It can hit the coast in the afternoon.

Giving the latest information, Odisha Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said that Amfan is 110 km away from Paradip and is moving at a speed of 18-19 km per hour.

The storm will hit the Sundarbans in West Bengal till evening. The next 4 to 6 hours are going to be important.

The India Meteorological Department said that this 'cyclonic storm' is likely to hit the coast of West Bengal on the afternoon or evening of May 20.

During this time, the wind speed is likely to remain at 155-165 kmph at first and after that it is likely to become even faster and reach a high level of 185 kmph.

Due to cyclonic storm Amphan, Kolkata airport has been closed till 5 am tomorrow.

Special flights were being operated at the airport in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic.
