E-scooter makers including Ola decides to refund charger cost to customers

The demand for electric vehicles has increased rapidly across the country in recent times, especially in the two-wheeler segment, with people buying electric scooters and bikes in large numbers. Now there is a good news for the owners of these electric two-wheelers.

Leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers Ola Electric, Hero MotoCorp, Aether Energy and TVS Motor have decided to refund the amount charged separately for EV off-board chargers. According to reports, this amount is around Rs 288 crore.

Ola Electric has today announced through social media that it will be refunding the amount charged for electric two-wheeler chargers to its customers. This refund will be given only to eligible customers, the statement added. The company does not know anything about the refund amount

These brands will also give refunds – apart from Ola Electric, according to the report, Aether Energy will refund around Rs 140 crore, TVS Motors will refund around Rs 15.61 crore to buyers of its iQube electric scooter, Hero MotoCorp will refund its Vida V1 Plus electric scooter.

What's the case?- Electric two-wheeler manufacturers were charging EV chargers separately to subsidize their vehicles to consumers. The case started when Okinawa Autotech and Hero Electric violated the rules of the FAME II scheme.

What is the rule?- As per FAME II rules, electric two-wheelers sold at a price of Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom) are not eligible for benefits under the Rs 10,000 crore government programme. The MHI investigation found that Ola Electric, Ather Electric, TVS Motor and Hero Vida.
