Mentally ill mother, brutally kills her 8-month-old baby, claims his son was a goat

A mother, allegedly axed her child to death in Ashok Nagar district of Bhopal. "He was a goat and I have sent him where he belongs," she said as she returned home carrying her 8-month-old profusely bleeding baby.

The mother, Rashmi Lodhi, was arrested after her father informed police about the incident, the Times of India reported.

Rashmi is a resident of Churari village in Bhopal. Rashmi's family members told police that she had left home with her child on Saturday afternoon and when she returned hours later, the child was bleeding profusely.

Carrying the child, the woman had then said, "He was a goat and I have sent him where he belongs," family members told police. According to police, Rashmi's family initially wanted to cover up the crime.

The mother of the accused had even wrapped the body of the 8-month-old in a cloth and taken him to a hospital, saying that he had tumbled down the stairs, the TOI report said. Later on Sunday morning, Rashmi's father told police about the matter.

An investigation was launched and the axe, which was used to commit the crime, was recovered. The child's body was also sent for autopsy. Primary investigation revealed that the woman first placed the child on a highway road and then axed him to death. Multiple injuries were inflicted on the baby's neck.

It is suspected that Rashmi is mentally unstable. She has been admitted to a hospital for a psychological assessment. At the same time, locals believe that the child was sacrificed by her mother, the report said.

In another incident, a man in Maharashtra's Palghar district was arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend and hiding her body the bathroom loft of his flat.

Police said the accused killed the woman as she was pressuring him to marry her.

Skeletal remains of the victim, who was prima facie murdered in October last year, was recovered from accused man's flat o in Vangaon village last week.
