National Capital receives heaviest rainfall in 46 years, Delhi Airport waterlogged

The Meteorological Department of India said on Saturday that 1,100 mm of rain fell in Delhi so far this year in the most unusual monsoon season, the highest in 46 years and almost double the rainfall recorded last year. These figures may change as the day in the city.

An IMD official said, "The Safdarjung Observatory recorded 1,150 mm of rainfall in the 1975 monsoon season. This year, the rains have already crossed the 1,100 mark and the monsoon season is not over yet, ”he said.

Delhi received more than 100 mm of rain for two consecutive days earlier this month. 112.1 mm of rain was recorded on September 1 and 117.7 mm on September 2. The city received 94.7 mm of rain on Saturday. July 13 is the longest in 19 years of monsoon in Delhi.

Delhi received 507.1 mm of rainfall on rainy days, which is about 141 per cent more than the average. This is the heaviest rainfall this month since July 2003. The city received just 10 days of rain in August, the lowest in seven years and a total of 214.5 mm.
