Sheopur district Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyaya said that when the bank officials opened the safe on June 9, 101 packets containing mortgaged gold articles were found to be missing.

Over a hundred packets of gold items have allegedly gone missing from State Bank of India's (SBI) station road branch here, a police official said on Friday

Upon interrogation, the police became suspicious of the bank's cashier. After further investigation, it was found that Rajiv, the cashier of the bank and two other accomplices had committed the crime.

The police first arrested the cashier on the basis of small evidence and then reached out to his friend Naveen and his female friend Jyoti. The whole case was then uncovered. Cashier's partner Naveen has stolen gold at least 26 times.

Police have arrested three accused in the theft case. Police have seized 3 kg of gold and Rs 11 lakh from the accused. According to senior police officials, the case is related to theft and gold loan fraud, so a detailed investigation is underway.
