The earth is mainly made up of four layers. Inner core, outer core, peritoneum and mantle. The core of the crust and upper mantle is called the lithosphere. Now this 50 km thick layer is divided into several sections, called tectonic plates.

Sometimes these plates also break. Their impact releases a large amount of energy. Sometimes these shocks are so mild that they are not even felt. And sometimes their intensity is so high that the ground cracks.
