People's Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday criticized the government for not controlling the number of pilgrims and for laying road networks in Jammu and Kashmir, warning of a Joshimath-like situation in Amarnath and Vaishno Devi.

Mehbooba said in a series of tweets, “Joshimath is just the beginning. Such ecological accidents can sometimes happen in ecologically sensitive states like Sri Amarnath and Vaishno Devi of Jammu and Kashmir.

Why should the Indian government not control the number of pilgrims and lay roads at these places? The negligence will lead to disaster in the future.''

The former Chief Minister said that the government is yet to wake up even after the disaster due to landslides in Joshimath. He alleged, "Dukhi ki baat hai ki Joshimath ko nigalne wali apada se bhi Bharat Sarkar ki linde nahi khuli hai."

They lack perspective and they can only spread communal tension to divert people's attention from their failures.''

It is worth noting that Joshimath, known as the gateway to Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib and the international ski resort Auli, is facing major challenges due to landslides.
