Who is Swapna Suresh? The key accused in the high-profile Kerala gold-smuggling case

After smuggling 30 kg of gold from diplomatic baggage at Thiruvananthapuram airport in Kerala, the gold smuggling racket began to unravel. The gold was in the name of the embassy in the United Arab Emirates. The investigation revealed that a former embassy employee was involved in the smuggling.

As soon as Swapna Suresh's name came up in the case, there was an earthquake in Kerala's politics. Her photo with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also gone viral. The chief minister said he was ready for an inquiry.

Swapna was born in Abu Dhabi, UAE she did her education from UAE and landed a job at the airport. She got married but was soon divorced. She then located her base in Thiruvananthapuram with her daughter. For the next two years, she worked for a travel agency.

Not many had any idea about her activities until her named surfaced in the gold -smuggling case.

In 2016 when the Crime Branch began its investigation into the fraud case. Then she went back to Abu Dhabi. There she became Secretary to the Consulate General at the UAE Consulate. Again last year she quit her job and according to police, she was fired from her employment.

When Swapna was a trainer at Air India she was accused of cheating an officer. According to Manorama Online, when the case was being investigated, police were pressured to release her during interrogation.

Getting a job at the UAE Consulate turned out to be a turning point in her life. Here she met high profile people. She was always seen at parties in big hotels.

Deal Woman - A woman's name came up when actress Shamna Kasim was questioned in an extortion case. When the police came to know about the woman, popularly known as Deal Woman, they seized gold worth Rs 13.5 crore from her diplomatic baggage.

Police found out that the gold smuggling gang was smuggling through models and actresses. When further inquiries were made, it came to light that Swapna Suresh is basically the 'Deal Woman'.

The name of M Shivshankar, Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of Kerala is being mentioned. That being said, it was he who gave Swapna a job in the IT department. The IT secretary is also the secretary to the chief minister.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vijayan's office has said that it has nothing to do with Swapna in the gold-smuggling case.
