7 lakh Mumbaikars bid goodbye to MTNL connections?

MTNL Mumbai has informed RTI activist Anil Galgali that the number of Mumbaikar customers who have been surrendering to MTNL in the last 9 years is 7.58 lakh and the satisfaction is that 3.25 lakh new subscribers added with MTNL, Mumbai.

Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, had sought information from MTNL Mumbai on the number of landline subscribers, number of surrenders, and number of new connections in the last 10 years.

Deputy General Manager, MTNL Mumbai supply the 9 years of information to Anil Galgali during the tenure of 2013-14 to 30 November 2021. There are currently 14,75,547 customers with MTNL, Mumbai. 9 years ago that number was 19,40,336.

In the last 9 years, a total of 7,58,929 customers say Goodbye to MTNL, Mumbai service. Another side 3,25,320 new customers were added during the same period.

During the year 2020-2021, 1,16,233 customers have surrendered their landlines. Although new customers have been added for the last 2 years, the number is only 3998 between 2020-2021 and 2535 between 2021-2022.

In the last 2 years, 1,86,477 customers have surrendered their landlines and only 6533 new connections have been added in MTNL, Mumbai.

According to Anil Galgali, customers were already dissatisfied with the service and MTNL Mumbai has failed to maintain the quality of service due to contract work in the last few years

Reacting to the fact that MTNL Mumbai can compete only if new recruitments and quality of service are maintained, Anil Galgali has asked the Prime Minister, Telecom Minister to take measures to save MTNL Mumbai

Huge competition ensued as private companies stepped into the telecommunications sector; But despite having the most resources, government support and skilled manpower, MTNL has not been able to sustain the competition. That's why their customer base in the last few years.

Meanwhile, the government intends to raise Rs 970 crore by selling real estate of state-owned BSNL and MTNL. The properties will be sold in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Bhavnagar and Kolkata.

The sale will be completed in about a month and a half. This includes assets of BSNL worth Rs 660 crore and MTNL worth Rs 310 crore. Property in Vasari Hill area of ​​Goregaon area of ​​Mumbai as well as Oshiwara area.

A total income of Rs 310 crore is expected from this. The flats range in price from Rs 52.60 lakh to Rs 1.59 crore. This is the first step in securing the assets of BSNL and MTNL.
