Apple's AirTag is proving to be a very useful object as the device helps people find their lost or stolen items

One such incident also happened with Beatriz Spaltemberg and her husband, William Lacerda, who resided in the Netherlands.

They experienced a fortunate turn of events when an AirTag system aided in the recovery of their stolen bicycle.

Lacerda, concerned by the escalating incidence of bike thefts in the area, took a proactive step by equipping each of their bicycles with an AirTag.

This decision proved pivotal in the unfolding events. In a twist of fate, despite the couple's precautionary measures, they still lost one of their bicycles.

Spaltemberg, adhering to her usual routine, left her bike outside a gym. Tragically, she forgot to pick up her key, which provided an opportunity for a thief to seize the bike. “When she left [the gym] an hour or so later, the bike was gone,” Lacerda told 9to5Mac.

Swiftly responding to the situation, Spaltemberg utilized Apple's Find My app, enabling her to monitor the bike's location on a real-time basis.

Recognizing the urgency, the couple promptly contacted the local authorities to report the incident, with accurate information about the bike's whereabouts.

The stolen bicycle was precisely situated where the Find My app had indicated. The couple provided evidence to the authorities, confirming the bike as Spaltemberg's possession.

The thief, it appeared, had locked the bike to a lamppost, further affirming its authenticity. But, the perpetrator was not there at the scene, so the police is trying to identify the thief by reviewing footage from street cameras.
