NASA is tracking a giant asteroid which at its highest estimate would as tall as the Eiffel Tower – and it’s set to skim Earth’s orbit this week.

The Space Administration have dubbed the rock 441987 (2010 NY65), and it is expected to rocket by on Wednesday (June 24).

It is estimated to be between 140m and 319m (459ft and 1046ft) – so it would be around the same height as the Eiffel Tower in Paris which is 300m (984ft) at its largest.

NASA have classed it as an Apollo asteroid – they are space rocks which are expected to come close to the Earth's orbit.

Scientists do not think the asteroid will collide with Earth, but they're keeping an eye on it in case it enters our atmosphere by chance.

Asteroid 441987 (2010 NY65) is expected to zoom past Earth at 11.44am BST on Wednesday next week. The space rock is believed to be travelling at a speed of 12.89 kilometres a second or around 29,000 miles per hour.
