Tata Motors, part of the TATA group, has recently strongly opposed a demand made by Tesla's Elon Musk, saying it supports the Modi government's plan.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk had said a few days ago that India has the highest import duty in the world. He also hoped that we would get at least a temporary reduction in import duty.

The same demand made by Elon Musk has been opposed by TATA Motors. Sushil Chandra, Chairman, Passenger Unit, Tata Motors, said that the demand for Elon Musk was based on the central government's FAME, Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric.

Through this policy, the Modi government at the Center aims to make India a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. The central government is making efforts to promote electric vehicle manufacturing. Emphasis on local production rather than reducing import duties.

Elon Musk's demand will not serve the purpose of the central government's fame program, Chandra said. At present, TATA Motors has a 90 percent share in the electric vehicle sector.
