Shankersinh Vaghela has tendered his resignation from the post of national general secretary of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as well as active membership of the party.

In a letter addressed to NCP chief Sharad Pawar, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat Shankersinh Vaghela stated that he had brought 'vibrancy to the workers and the entire state' and 'On the day of the change of the presidentship of the state NCP and due to recent political developments, despair spread among the entire party workers.'

Vaghela posted the letter on Twitter and publicly announced that he was leaving the NCP.

According to sources, there had been a lot of internal friction between Jayant Patel (the now NCP State President) and Shankersinh Vaghela over the recent Rajya Sabha elections.
