A man living in Nagaur in Jodhpur, western Rajasthan, sleeps 300 days a year. Did you also find this strange? However, 42-year-old Purkharam has a rare disease. According to doctors, Purkharam has Axis Hypersomnia. The disease is mental in nature. Purkharam contracted the disease 23 years ago. He does not wake up for 25 days once he falls asleep. Due to this disease, the villagers call Purkharam as Kumbhakarna.

Purkharam resides in Bhadwa village in Parbatsar in Nagaur district. He runs a grocery store. Due to his strange diseasethe sleep he only opens his shop 5 days in a month. Purkharam has Axis hypersomnia. His relatives say that he does not wake up for 20 to 25 days once he sleeps. Initially, Purkharam used to sleep for 5 to 7 days. It took a lot of effort for the family to wake him up.

The disease has aggravated since 2015

As soon as Purkharam started falling asleep, his relatives took him to the doctor. But initially the doctors did not notice the disease. After that, Purkharam's sleep period increased.
Now he often sleep for 25 days. Doctors say that this disease is very rare. When this disease occurs, a person falls asleep constantly. The body does not accompany the person even though he wants to wake up. Purkharam's illness has increased since 2015. Until 2015, he used to sleep 18 hours. But now he sleeps for 20 to 25 days.

Eating and drinking, everything while sleeping

A day before going to sleep, Purkharam suffers from a headache. Once he falls asleep, he cannot wake up.  So relatives feed him while he is asleep. There is no cure for Purkharam's illness yet. His mother Kanwari Devi and wife Lichhmi Devi are confident that Purkharam will recover soon and lead a normal life as before.
