Eight-time Olympic gold-winning sprinter Usain Bolt has tested positive for coronavirus. Jamaica's health ministry confirmed late on Monday that Bolt had tested positive for COVID-19. Bolt tweeted, "Just to be safe I quarantined myself and just taking it easy," Bolt said in the message that he appeared to have taped himself while lying in bed. It was posted with the caption "Stay safe my ppl". "Best birthday ever," Bolt, who retired from athletics in 2017, wrote on Twitter.Bolt celebrated his birthday with a surprise party which was attended by many well known names including the Indian Premier League franchise KingsXI Punjab’s opener Chris Gayle. The party was also attended by footballers aheem Sterling and Leon Bailey.

According to reports, Bolt has contracted the virus and he will now have to spend time in self-isolation until he recovers. The sprinter took a COVID-19 test a few days ago where he discovered that he had tested positive for the virus. Several photos of Bolt’s 34th birthday party had surfaced on social media where the guests were singing and dancing outdoors without any safety measures. The guests were spotted without masks, not adhering to social distancing in the birthday celebrations. Bolt had even tweeted ‘Best birthday ever’ last week after the celebrations.The celebrations showed Bolt laughing and dancing with his guests and even taking the microphone while the speakers blasted out singer. Gayle who will be playing for Kings XI this IPL is not playing CPL 2020 this year. Gayle had stated to his franchise Lucia Zouks that he would not be available to play due to personal reasons. Jamaica has so far registered 1413 COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths. Meanwhile, 817 individuals have successfully managed to recover from the deadly virus.
