BMC changes rules again, building to be sealed if there are more than 3 cases

Mumbai, the top Covid hotspot, on Tuesday recorded only 700 cases the lowest single-day rise in new cases in three months.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has again revised the rules to seal the buildings where one or more residents are found Covid-19 positive.

According to new rules issued on Wednesday, BMC will now seal a building completely only if more than three positive cases were reported.

A senior official from R South ward stated the rules:

- Three or more Covid-19 cases are reported from a building, BMC will seal the building completely.

- Less that three cases reported, then BMC will only seal a particular floor of the building.

- In less than three cases there will be no restriction  imposed on the movement of other residents,” a senior official from R South ward said.

The decision was taken by the BMC after several complaints were made by the residents of the building who were facing problems to go to work or buy groceries due to 14 days complete seal. Local political leaders had also approached the Additional Municipal Commissioner, Suresh Kakani, to apprise him of the problems that people were facing.

The civic body had revised its guidelines on sealing buildings following a rise in Covid-19 cases in Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar areas.
