BMC Mayor: Significant drop in number of containment zones in Mumbai.

The number of containment zones in Mumbai had reached to 1036. There has been a significant drop in number of containment zones in Mumbai. 231 zones are out of the containment zone list after they didn't record a single COVID-19 positive patient for last 14 days, said Kishori Pednekar, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Mayor. 

It is also likely that the ongoing lockdown will likely be extended in Mumbai and Pune till May 18. Mumbai and Pune are one the worst hit cities by coronavirus. These two cities accounts for 92 per cent of COVID-19 cases in the state. 

The number of hotspots in the state have been reduced to five from 14, adding that the rate of doubling of cases in Maharashtra has improved to 7.01 days from 3.1 day. 

The districts that have been marked as coronavirus hotspots in Maharashtra are as follows : 
Mumbai Mumbai Metropolitan Region 
Pune 
Nagpur
Nashik 
Mumbai

Mumbai is one the worst affected city in the state, it has reported 5,407 coronavirus cases while the death toll is at 204.
