Bombay high court asks Maharashtra govt to address security concern of Adar Poonawalla

Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute of Pune is serving the country by providing vaccines to the country for coronavirus. The Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to communicate with them and reassure them if they feel unsafe in the country. The court said a senior police official in the state government or the home minister should approach Poonawala on a personal level and assure him of security. A bench of Justice Sambhaji Shinde and Abhay Ahuja also gave the government time till June 10 to provide further information in this regard.

Some people from the state demanding that the state be given priority in the supply of Covishield have sent threatening phone calls to Adar Poonawala. Apart from this, Adar Poonawala himself had said that he getting threat calls. He made the allegation in an interview with an English newspaper. Later, Bombay High Court advocate Datta Mane had filed a writ petition through Adv. Pradeep Havanur. The petition sought to provide Z-plus security to Adar Poonawala.

Poonawala is working hard to provide anti-corona vaccine to the country. But the threatening phone calls forced him to leave the country and go to England. It is the duty of the state government to provide him proper security. Therefore, the advocates have demanded that instructions be given to the state DGP and Pune Police Commissioner to ensure the safety of Adar Punawala and his family as well as their companies. According to the state government, Adar Punawala was given Y-grade security by the state government. Apart from this, CRPF personnel were also deployed by the Central Government. The state government is considering providing Z-grade security to Poonawala after his return to India. State Chief Public Prosecutor Deepak Thackeray has given this information to the bench.
