The second wave of the coronavirus has struck Maharashtra and in the last six days, more than one lakh nine thousand new patients have been found in the state.

All eyes are on what steps would the Thackeray government, which last year managed to curb the covid spread, will take now. Against this backdrop, the state’s director of medical education, senior eye surgeon Dr. Tatyarao Lahane has praised Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's corona knowledge.

"It was only with his guidance and cooperation that we were able to make a significant impact in the fight against Corona," he said.

Dr Tatyarao Lahane, director, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) worked hard to bring the covid situation in control. Dr. Lahane was honored with 'Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year' award. The award was presented to him in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. While accepting his award he mentioned about the state government's co-operation.

"Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has studied about the covid so much that he knows more about the virus than doctors. It was only with the support of Uddhav Thackeray and Minister Amit Deshmukh that we were able to successfully face the Corona crisis. There are enough labs in Maharashtra today that can do 2 lakh tests every day. The corona mortality rate in the state has come down from 38 per cent to less than 2.5 per cent today. This was possible only due to the cooperation of the government," said Dr Lahane.
