COVID-19: Mumbai Police recovers 2200 Remdesivir vials in raids

Mumbai Police & Food and Drugs Administration teams raided 2 locations on Monday over black marketing of COVID-19 drug Remdesivir. The police recovered 2000 vials of Remdesevir at one exporter's location in Marol,Andheri East, which belongs to a pharmaceutical company. While 200 vials of Remdesevir was recovered at another exporter's location in New Marine Lines in Mumbai. 

These 2200 Remdesivir vials were produced for export but were kept stocked by the exporters as there is a ban on the export of Remdesevir. FDA officials are following due procedure to make these vials available to hospitals, said Mumbai Police PRO. 

Many instances, across several states, of Remdesivir black marketing have been cropping up amid its shortage as India struggles amid the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Remdesivir is considered a key anti-viral drug in the fight against COVID-19. Several states across the country have asked for more supplies amid the record surge in COVID-19 infections.
