Maharashtra govt asks Governor to appoint Uddhav Thackeray as MLC

The Maharashtra state government has passed a resolution directing Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to appoint Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray as an MLC, at a time when elections to the council have been postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.

Uddhav Thackeray is currently not a member of the state assembly and needs to become one within six months of taking office, which he did in November 2019.

A decision was taken in today's cabinet meeting to recommend CM Uddhav Thackeray's name for the 2 vacant MLC posts that are recommended by Governor. As MLC elections can't be held due to COVID-19, it is being done to avoid a constitutional crisis, said Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik.
