Maharashtra: Schools in state to start online from tomorrow, Department of Education gives important info

For the second year in a row, schools in the state will start online from tomorrow (June 15) in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. The academic year for schools in the state will start from June 15, the education department said. In fact, the state government has not yet taken any decision on starting the school.

Although the number of corona patients in the state has come down, strict lockdown has been imposed in many districts even today. Therefore, it is unlikely that schools in the state will start at present. The decision to start the school is actually to be taken by the local administration, said Dattatraya Jagtap, director of school education, while talking to BBC Marathi.

Dattatraya Jagtap said, "From June 15, we will give instructions on how to reach education to students through online and other possible means." A notification in this regard will be issued in the next two days. After the start of the academic year, there should be no interruption in the studies of the student, said Jagtap. The situation of corona is different in different districts of the state. Therefore, the state government has imposed lockdown restrictions in phases. So it will not be possible to start schools all at once. Jagtap also clarified that the local administration can take a decision on starting a school based on the situation in their district.

For the fourth time in a week, Maharashtra's Covid-19 death toll climbed to a new peak, while the total cases crossed the 59 lakh mark though fresh infections dropped, health officials said on Sunday. Compared with 1,966 deaths declared on Saturday, the state now revealed the highest-ever fatalities, at 2,771 (comprising 483 new and 2,288 earlier deaths), taking the toll to 111,104. The number of fresh cases remained below the 15,000 level, dipping from 10,697 on Saturday to 10,442, as the total tally zoomed to 59,08,992 now.
