Mumbai: Local Trains available for central govt, bank and court employees

The Maharashtra government has now allowed employees of various Central Government Offices/Establishments, High Courts and Public Sector Banks to travel by local trains. In order to comply with the physical distancing rules, only 700 passengers are allowed to travel in each locomotive as compared to the seating capacity of 1,200 people.

Earlier on June 15, both the Central and Western Railway had resumed their Mumbai suburban services over main and harbour lines. However, these suburban services were strictly meant for ‘essential staff’ as identified by the state government.

Many of the central government employees used their private vehicle or took bus to reach their offices which was taking extra time on the journey.

Maharashtra is the worst-affected state in India due to coronavirus or COVID-19.
