By Mehboob InamdarAurangabad, May 18:Engineering colleges will have to provide virtual tours facilities for the aspirants of engineering courses on the line of foreign institutes and universities.It may be noted that thousands of students apply for engineering admissions and after the admissions, they realise that the college has no facilities and proper infrastructure. They either change the college or give up engineering. Also, many parents want to know available facilities in engineering institutes in other cities before sending their children for education.Since last year, the All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has started an online affiliation process because of COVID spread. All the online process and activities of the Council received a good response. So, it decided to make virtual tours of college compulsory every year for the affiliation.The video of the college would be uploaded on the college portal. It will have several benefits. One of them is that students would get information about department-wise facilities of institutes and another is that AICTE would inspect the college virtually for the affiliation.Most colleges and universities abroad provide such type of facilities to help students know better about them before taking the admissions.The AICTE said that the advantage of virtual tours is that the institute will send a video for the affiliation to the AICTE and the same can be uploaded on their website, making it convenient for students to check the institute before choosing to apply for a seat.Talking to the newspaper, Principal of MIT College Dr Santosh Bhosale said that students would get information about an institute through a virtual tour.“This will attract more and more students towards colleges which maintain quality and provide required facilities. One cannot visit the colleges before admission in the current pandemic situation. Therefore, aspirants can take a virtual tour from the colleges portal.Dr Harirang H Shinde, Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College, said that they had already started providing a facility of virtual tours for new students. “Aspiring engineers can get department-wise information through a virtual tour. It is also useful for the parents who send their children to study out of the district,” he said.
