Orrin Grant Hatch is an American attorney, songwriter, and politician who served as the United States Senator for Utah for over 40 years. First elected in 1976, he is the longest-serving Republican U.S. Senator in history.Along with Patrick Leahy from Vermont, he is one of only two sitting U.S. Senators to have served during the presidency of Gerald Ford; he is also one of two remaining Republican U.S. Senators, along with Chuck Grassley from Iowa, to have served during the presidency of Jimmy Carter.Hatch served as either the Chair or ranking minority member of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1993 to 2005.
