A 15-day lockdown has been announced in the MAharashtra due to the rising covid-19 cases in the state. The implementation of the new restrictions will start from 8 pm tonight.

Dharavi, which was Corona's hotspot in Mumbai last year, has now started reporting cases again. As a result, the worries of administration has increased again. Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale has written to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan demanding corona vaccination for people above 18-year old age in Dharavi, Asia's largest slum.

"Dharavi was the corona's hotspot in the first wave of corona last year. However, due to the self-discipline of the citizens, the combined efforts of the state government and the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the Dharavikars had set a unique positive example to the world by battling the virus. Now, in the second wave of corona, the number of corona patients in Dharavi are increasing. The majority of citizens in Dharavi are working as health and sanitation workers. In such situation, if everyone in Dharavi above the age of 18 is vaccinated against corona, Dharavi and Mumbai can be saved from a big crisis ", said Rahul Shewale.

Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 60,212 fresh COVID-19 infections and 281 deaths, according to the State Health Department. Several districts in Maharashtra including the capital Mumbai are severely hit by the second wave of COVID infections. Mumbai reported 7,898 new cases and 26 deaths in the last 24 hours.
